From the director of the amazing Hereditary comes this nightmare soaked in daylight. While Hereditary was more of a drama movie with horrific aspects, Midsommar plays more like a horror movie with drama about equally as much. This movie had some extremely horrific scenes, some more disturbing than Hereditary. Where this movie shines the most is in its cinematography and acting. The cinematography is just absolutely stunning with some shots that elevated the tension of certain scenes to an unbelievable degree. And with this movie being almost completely drenched in sunlight, the shots are absolutely gorgeous and vibrant, as well as equally horrifying. As far as the acting goes, it is amazing all across the board especially from Florence Pugh who played Dani. She did an excellent job at displaying multiple emotions not even through dialogue but just through facial expressions and actions. The rest of the cast did an excellent job as well, with Jack Reynor playing Christian as another standout. The only minor complaint i have with the movie is the fact that it does not go wild to an extreme degree in the last act like Hereditary did. Instead, this movie had horrifying things happen throughout to even it out. I was just expecting that insane last act like Hereditary but it honestly was not that big of a deal. Ari Aster (the director) did it again with this movie, making a smart and effective horrific movie that puts the human psyche and emotions in center stage. This movie was incredible and i highly recommend any fan of horror to see it.

As I former cult member myself (4 years) I would say that there is A LOT lacking in many movies featuring cults. I would like to see a movie that that really captures the extent of indoctrination and makes it as visceral as it really is. They make you feel special, loved and Whole and you would be willing to do anything for Them. They become your life and you are just a part of Them; your self has no value other than in that context. And a pretentious movie goer would want to pretend like they are not retarded so they end up watching these so called film analysis and pretend that they like it. All so that their pretentious asses could pat themselves on the back for understanding a "complex" story.
